Chaplain's Messages

Virginia Grace Lingelbach,

Chaplain General

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;

it does not rejoice at wrong but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

As we Celebrate Stars & Stripes Forever, let us also rejoice in our DAR ties of service and friendship.

NSDAR DAY OF PRAYER  SUNDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2023

The NSDAR Day of Prayer is based in determining the Sunday closest to the date of the founding of the DAR, October 11, 1890.

This year it is Sunday, October 8.

A Legacy of Faith

This was the theme that ran through our State Conference memorial service on the last morning we were there. It is a pensive, beautiful service remembering our departed daughters. This year our closing hymn was “ It is well with my soul ”. Yes, I cried. Quietly. The lyrics were resonating with every fiber of my being. I remember singing the hymn in church and it moved me then, but I never knew anything about the composer until now.

Horatio Gates Spafford was born October 28, 1828 in Troy , New York. His life is interesting, full, rich, and very fraught with tragedies. I choose to let you research and read about the family, but one clue I will share is that what led him to write the hymn and where and when he wrote the hymn are of utmost interest.

It is truly a man of faith leaving a legacy of faith for us when we sing this hymn.

“It is Well with My Soul ” read Psalm 46 1-3

There will always be storms to face and sometimes tragedies. We cannot always say that things are going well, but with faith in a real and loving God we can give some of our burden to One who loves us.

Please share in prayer with me:

Dear Lord,

You have taught us that You have a plan for us. Your hand guides us, comforts us, provides us with all that we need.

May faith and peace abide in our hearts.

                                             Amen

NSDAR DAY OF PRAYER  SUNDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2021

Because of the faith of many of our founding fathers, public prayer and national days of prayer have a long-standing and significant history in American tradition. The Supreme Court affirmed the right of state legislatures to open their sessions with prayer in Marsh vs. Chambers (1983).

Days of prayer have been called for since 1775, when the Continental Congress designated a time for prayer in forming a new nation.

The date of the NSDAR Day of Prayer is based on determining the Sunday closest to the date of the founding of the DAR, October 11, 1890, the date will vary yearly.

Our President General has selected the following scripture to guide and encourage us throughout the 2019-2022 Administration:

Matthew 5 " Let your light shine before others that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

As we join together to rise and shine for America, let us keep the scripture in our hearts and minds.

I invite you to pray in your faith and tradition as I pray in mine.

Let us pray together

Almighty God, as we pray together on this beautiful day, we give pause to give Thee thanks for Thy abiding presence in our country. We thank Thee for our forefathers who established this great nation and gave us the opportunity to live in freedom.

We thank Thee for the vision and commitment of our Society's Founders and are grateful for the gift of membership in an organization that for over a century has been a positive force in the lives of so many in this country and around the world.

Guide us and direct us to wise decisions that we might continue the legacy left to us by all those who, throughout our history, labored to preserve our American Heritage and way of life.

We pray Thy continual blessing upon our nation's leaders and on our men and women of our armed forces.

Protect us and keep us always in Thy warm embrace and loving care.

In Thy holy name we pray.

Amen.
